So, Amanda (my wife) and I thought it would be cool to capture what was going through our minds before our daughter makes her big debut on September 24. We are gonna make this up as we go along so we hope you enjoy:
Chris: Amanda, what’s it like growing a person?
I would say it’s magical because it’s just an amazing experience. It’s humbling because I feel so much responsibility and it’s…hmmm, it’s incredibly intimate because you are connected to this other little person.
Amanda: Chris, what’s it been like to watch?
For me, it’s been the most amazing experience I have ever been a part of. It is just indescribable how beautiful it is to watch you change shape because of the little miracle that is living inside you.
Chris: Amanda, what has been your favorite part of this pregnancy?
Interacting with her on a regular basis, feeling her kick and almost communicating with her has been fascinating. What I mean is feeling her kick when I push or rub my belly. You feel like you actually have a little dialogue going on.
Amanda: Chris, what’s been your favorite part?
I think it was when you were two weeks late and I begged you to go pee on a stick. It was like pulling teeth but you finally went. You very sternly told me that you wanted me to read the results. I waited for what seemed to be an eternity and watched those two little lines. Those two little lines would wind up bringing so much joy into our lives for the next nine months. Then I went completely goof, ran up stairs to find a musical Charlie Brown card I had gotten for you years ago. I ran back downstairs with it, opened it so we could both dance to the “Snoopy” song in great celebration.
Chris: Amanda, what would you like us to do to keep the spark between us alive?
I want for both of us to remember to be mindful and to be grateful for having this little family of ours, especially in the tough moments. We have been VERY good about that in our marriage. The more we do that as a family, the fewer things will get in our way and dampen that spark… and the more we can enjoy each other
Amanda: How about you Chris?
We will always keep loving each other, and do things as a family especially outside in nature. I also, think it is very important if we make time for each other as a couple. You know, date nights and keeping the romance ALIVE. That’s what the grandparents are for. The most important thing for me, as well, is to be present and living in the now whenever we interact with each other because every moment is precious and I want to embrace and enjoy this journey in which we are about to embark.
In a few more hours we will bring a wonderful little person in the world and Amanda and I would like to leave you with this…
“The world is going to be a better place for having our daughter in it because she is made from the very best parts of both of us.”
