Sounds simple enough, you know what you believe in right? Did you know some of the beliefs you hold onto might secretly and quietly hold you back? Things like your beliefs about your financial situation, relationships, exercising, maybe even your job.
In a recent call with our U-Factor class, one of the participants shared that she was amazed with how her awareness of her beliefs has drastically changed how she approaches and makes decisions each day. Raising self awareness is one of the first topics we cover. One of the exercises we have folks do is reflect on and challenge their personal beliefs that may not serve them any longer. Here is a great way to explore your own beliefs.
Identify a belief. For example “I put up with this job because the job market is scary and I need the security of a steady income” or “I want to like the person I see in the mirror again, but I just don’t have time to exercise.” Next follow that with a series of powerful questions “How does this belief serve me?” Really dig deep with your answer. Then follow it up by asking “How does this propel me forward?” and “How might this be holding me back?”
If your belief is limiting you, it’s time to challenge it. The best way to do that is to bring it out into the light of day and recognize it for what it is. That’s where the awareness comes in. Next, look at the evidence that contradicts that belief. No doubt, with little effort, you will be able to find plenty. And now, you’ve begun the process of replacing limiting beliefs.
Just something to think about…
