I just read a post on facebook from a friend who had lost a friend over the weekend. He posted that he had been busy over the past few years, as we all are, and now he wished he had reached out more to his friend. We’ve all been there. Loss is so hard, and there can be certainly be regret that we could’ve have made more of an effort when we still could.
So I have a challenge for you, one that will eliminate future regret for you. Reach out to 10 people. It can be a phone call, a letter or a visit. Plan a get-together if possible and make it happen. Think of 10 people who you really want to connect with. These are people who have a special place in your heart, have enriched your life and the thought of them just makes you smile.
Bonus: Of course your family is usually at the top of your list, so here’s another challenge for you this week. Pick one family member to do something special for or with. Set aside some time to create a memorable experience that you will both enjoy.
I have my daughter visiting for 10 days right now and we are packing our days with fun adventures that we’ll be talking about for years to come. But you don’t have to go on vacation to make a magical moment. A quiet heartfelt chat or a spontaneous picnic could be the ticket. Be creative and have fun. And don’t forget to be generous with sharing your love and feelings.
Repeat the above process regularly and you are one step closer to living a regret-free life.
